Two hundred keys a day. No twenty. No fifty. If not thirty..

In Mexico, Acapulco is nicknamed the ‘Pearl of the Pacific’. The port city’s stunningly beautiful bay is sunny all year round and used to be the favourite hangout of famous Hollywood start like Elvis Presley, Johnny Weissmuller (Tarzan!) and Sylvester Stallone. They all drove the famous beetle taxis along the broad boulevard, fell in love with the bohemian port life and saw the famous cliff divers dip into the sea.

Today Acapulco got a bit edger, now drug gangs fight each other over turf in the hinterland. So keeping the door of your apartment, car or yacht locked in the port is mandatory! But with all those different keys for your locks and chains you just might lose one or two.

That’s where the somewhat shy but skilful locksmith Roque comes to the rescue. Whether it comes down to a pin tumbler copy or an extra lever lock, Roque can do the trick. And even more difficult keys like a double sided or a sidewinder are no problem for this born and raised ‘Acapulqueño’. He will copy any key for you with a big smile.

His ‘puesto’ is located just behind the vast row of hotels on the boulevard. Roque has his shop here for years. He loves to sit on the sidewalk and see the world go by, while his assistant does some hard key duplicating. Besides loving keys, Roque loves cars as well, so he made sure some funky coloured cars where painted in front of his business, that reminisce Acapulco’s vibrant heritage.
